All three photos above are examples of severe dental tartar and periodontal disease in dogs.  The photo to the right is that of a cat with severe tartar, periodontal disease, and gingival hyperplasia.

                    On the right is another example of gingival hyperplasia.

To the left is an example of how allowing retained deciduous teeth to remain can force the permanent teeth out of position resulting in severe malocclusion.  This dog also has an underbite that adds to the problem.

On the right is a photo of a common "slab" fracture found in the forth upper premolar of dogs that like to chew on hard objects.  This tooth will require either extraction or endodontic therapy (root canal with crown).

This photo depicts a deep cavity in a tooth that otherwise appeared normal.

To the right is a stage 2 feline ondoclastic resorptive lesion (FORL).  These lesions often are not visible without a thorough dental exam.
